BOTULAX is a peripheral muscle relaxant that contains purified botulinum toxin type A (in combination with haemagglutinin) and sodium chloride (excipient). The mechanism of action of the product is based on the ability of botulinum toxin type A to block the transmission of nerve impulses. Intramuscular administration of the toxin disrupts the synthesis of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter that ensures neuromuscular conduction) and leads to temporary paralysis of the facial muscles. Frozen facial expressions help relax muscles and smooth wrinkles.

• Underarms in the treatment of hyperhidrosis

Mode of action:

It relaxes and limits the movement of muscles around the injection site as per other Clostridium botulinum type A toxins.

Contraindications:

• Known hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
• Generalised disorders of muscle activity (e.g. myasthenia gravis, Lambert- Eaton syndrome) (as per other Clostridium botulinum type A toxins).
• Infection or inflammation at the proposed injection site (As per other Clostridium botulinum type A toxins).

Indications for Dysport

• Temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines)
• Management of muscle spasticity in adults with certain neurological conditions, such as cerebral palsy or stroke
